HOLLYWOOD star Rhys Ifans will return to his roots next month to take centre stage in a community theatre production at village halls throughout North Wales.

The Ruthin-born actor has agreed to play the part of the narrator in the Welsh language Theatr Bara Caws' production Unwaith Unwaith (Once upon a Time).

He will appear along with his younger brother Llyr in the show which starts its month long tour at Pwllheli on February 4.

But due to a prior commitment, Rhys will not actually appear live on stage - his part was filmed and will be shown on a huge video screen during the performances.

Rhys said: "It's a big thrill to be taking part in something like this. Bara Caws take live theatre right to the heart of North Wales. Over the years it must have visited every village hall in the area.

"I was pleased to be asked to take part and delighted to accept. Unfortunately I am appearing in Death of an Anarchist at the Donmar Warehouse in London at the same time so it was great to be able to film my scenes.

"I'm sure everyone will enjoy the show." The 34-year-old, who played scruffy Welsh-man Spike in the hit film Notting Hill, has not ruled out popping along to some shows and even putting in a personal appearance.
