A CANNABIS campaigner appeared before Denbighshire Magistrates last Thursday charged with the possession and supply of drugs following a police raid on his shop.
Jeffrey Joseph Ditchfield, 43, of Water Street, Rhyl, pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of a class B drug on September 6 and possession of a quantity of cannabis with intent to supply.
Ditchfield, represented by James Humphrys, told the court his pleas were on the grounds of medical necessity and that he was supplying the drug only to sick persons.
His shop The Beggars Belief was closed down by North Wales Police on September 6 within minutes of it opening, but despite this he officially opened the store seven days later.
Although magistrates agreed to hear the case, Ditchfield elected to be tried at Mold Crown Court and was granted unconditional bail until November 6 for committal papers to be prepared.
