HUNT supporters have distanced themselves from a stand-off in Denbigh in which a dead fox was brandished at anti-hunt protesters. Six women members of Denbighshire Animal Rights (DAR) were staging a peaceful demonstration outside the town's library on Saturday when three locals took exception. A dead fox was strung from a pick-up truck which was driven past the protesters in an act of "provocation". DAR spokeswoman Judi Hewitt said: "They drove past several times, shouting abuse. "One was even waving a fox's tail from the passenger side window. It was quite frightening." Police officers patrolling the town's High Street were alerted. "The driver was spoken to and suitable advice given," said a North Wales Police spokeswoman. DAR claims the truck had a Countryside Alliance banner but North Wales spokesman Barry Henderson said the group was not involved in any way. He said: "The Alliance does not condone this sort of behaviour." Mrs Hewitt promised to stage another demonstration in Denbigh in the summer. |
