May 10 2004

By David Powell Daily Post

Miall Roberts

THE devastated family of a teenager electrocuted by more than 11,000 volts have spoken of their agony.

Nineteen-year-old Miall Gwyn Roberts died in the accident at Bala Enterprise Park on Friday afternoon.

Police and Health and Safety Executive officials are investigating how a hydraulic arm touched an overhead cablel.

His distraught father, Gwyn Roberts, 44, said: "A friend rang and told me about what had happened on Friday. I couldn't believe it for a long time until I finally rang the funeral directors.

"Miall was very popular and sociable. He is going to be missed by such an awful lot of people."

The accident is believed to have happened when a hydraulic pump came into contact with the cable.

A ScottishPower spokeswoman said their own investigations would continue this week. She added the death involved a cable carrying "at least 11,000 volts".

Mr Roberts, of Dolhendre Isa, Llanuwchllyn, near Bala, said Miall was working for EW Jones plant hire company at the time.

He added: "We believe it was a terrible accident at this stage but we are anxiously waiting for the result s of the investigations."
