Snail mail on the way out

Sep 1 2004

Daily Post

MORE shocking figures from the Royal Mail will further erode people's faith in, and affection for, our postal service.

The public were angered greatly by the reduction in collections and they will be horrified to learn that this "efficiency drive" is not manifesting itself in improved delivery mechanisms.

If ever there was a time for e-mail providers to launch major marketing initiatives then surely this is it.

People of all ages are now computer-literate and realising just how easy it is to log-on to the internet and communicate with ease and efficiency.

E-mail provides a faster, cheaper alternative to "snail mail", and as soon as on-line security is a given rather than a promise, the old-style postal service will be finished forever.

Hail to Bryn

WELL done to Bryn Terfel and the organisers of this year's Faenol Festival. Three nights of spectacular entertainment demonstrated that North Wales has a voracious appetite for high-quality performers.

And the pictures from the event show that the entertainers were enjoying themselves as much as the crowds who lapped up the fun despite mixed weather. The organisers clearly tapped into the mood beautifully with an emphasis on the jazz revival that is sweeping Britain.

With Jools Holland to the fore, they delivered a youthful, vibrant package that took Faenol to a new exciting level.

It is a wonderful venue and the event is starting to establish itself as a major draw and part of the North Wales summer calendar.

Roll on next year.

Eye on Roo

MANCHESTER United have completed the signing of soccer prodigy Wayne Rooney for a huge £25m fee. The performances of Rooney at the Euro 2004 tournament demonstrate his value on the field, and the marketing opportunities he presents off it are equally obvious.

United though, must protect their investment.

Rooney has already shown a capacity for foolhardiness as evidenced by his visit to a seedy back-street massage parlour.

Eighteen-years-old and £40,000-plus a week can be a dangerous combination. United need to ensure Rooney is given the advice and nurturing every teenager needs and deserves.
