A UNIQUE £100,000 project to restore the world's oldest lighthouse keeper's cottage has won a top award.
The home, off the coast of Anglesey, has scooped the prize for an island-based firm of architectural designers.
It took two years of planning and three months of careful conservation work to restore the cottage, on the rocky Skerries north east of Holyhead, to its former glory.
Now Llanfairpwll-based company Dewis has been shortlisted for a major accolade in this year's British Building Maintenance Awards.
The winner will be announced at in Manchester on October 6.
"Three companies are in the running for awards, so we know we will get a gold, silver or bronze," said managing director Dewi Williams, whose company worked closely with conservation contractors Faenol-Linford on the project.
Trinity House, which owns the Skerries Lighthouse and the cottage, was eager to restore the cottage, built in 1716. Cash help came from Cadw.
