A MOTORIST who was three times over the drink-drive limit told police his pet dog was behind the wheel. Flintshire magistrates heard how Maurice Taylor, 31, was seen driving erratically after an evening in the pub. But when he saw the patrol car, he leapt into the passenger seat, shouting: "The dog was driving." The court heard there was a Staffordshire bull terrier sitting between Taylor's legs. Taylor of High Street, Saltney, yesterday admitted driving with 105 micro-grammes of alcohol in his breath. He was banned from driving for two years, placed on a 12 month rehabilitation and ordered to pay £55 costs. Speaking outside court Taylor said: "They got the wrong dog. "It was actually my little Jack Russell who was driving at the time." Flintshire magistrates heard Taylor and a friend had had a disagreement in the pub, and the friend who owned the car left. Taylor jumped into the car and drove after him. Justin Espley, prosecuting, said police were driving through Pentre towards Sandycroft when they saw a young man running along the street, looking back over his shoulder. |
