SUPER Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys wowed guests at the opening of a pal's new restaurant, when he broke into a private performance for them. Gruff, on a tour of Wales to promote a solo album, is used to bigger venues than the Beach Hut cafe-restaurant at Llanfairfechan. But he brought the house down with an unscheduled "concert" in front of 50 diners. The restaurant is a new venture for record producer and sound technician Les Morrison, 48, who's worked with the Furries and other top bands. Les said yesterday: "I'd invited friends for the opening and it came as a shock for them when Gruff started singing. They were all clapping and enjoying themselves."
