FORTY girls and boys took to the Welsh countryside yesterday to hunt foxes for the final time. Members of the Flint & Denbigh Hunt Pony Club, some as young as five, climbed on their horses to stage a symbolic final hunt. For many it was their first and last chance to carry on a countryside tradition followed by their parents and grandparents. The Government's ban on hunting with hounds is due to come into force on Friday. The Pony Club meet is usually held on New Year's Day but an extra date was added this year to pre-empt the ban. Appeal Court judges are due to rule this week on a last-ditch Countryside Alliance attempt to delay the ban. |
