A CYCLIST is on a three-month tour of Wales to persuade the public to tell politicians what they would like them to discuss at the G8 summit in July. Lydia Bulmer, 24, a former student at Aberystwyth university, left her home town on Sunday and cycled to Machynlleth where she lobbied people to set a Welsh agenda for the summit. Yesterday she headed into the hills above Talyllyn on her way to Dolgellau. She said: "The G8 summit is something that affects us all. It means us doing something to stop a child dying every 30 seconds and about climate change." Lydia will be continuing her Blossom Bike Tour, collecting the public's thoughts, which will then be presented to Rhodri Morgan and taken up to the summit to be presented to world leaders. Among the issues raised by Lydia are globalisation pushing aside minority languages and indigenous populations such as the Welsh, climate change, war and the gap between rich and poor. |
