Clean hands campaign aimed at beating MRSA

Apr 14 2005

Daily Post

HOSPITAL chiefs today launch a major cleanliness campaign in a bid to banish the MRSA superbug.

The initiative will see disinfectant hand gels placed close to patients so staff can clean their hands quickly.

A Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan, spokeswoman said: "The message of the campaign is simple - clean your hands before attending to patients."

The National Patient Safety Agency's cleanyourhands campaign is aimed at improving health care workers' hand hygiene..

The Glan Clwyd spokeswoman added: "The Trust is committed to reducing healthcare associated infections in its hospitals and is committed to the 'cleanyourhands' campaign.

"Improving hand hygiene goes back to the basics of patient care. There is no simple way of reducing health care associated infections. But improving hand hygiene can have a significant impact.

"This campaign reminds everyone that infection control is everybody's business."

Patients will see doctors, nurses and other medical workers wearing badges and stickers with the message "It's OK to ask".

The spokeswoman said: "That's because it is OK to remind the staff to clean their hands."
