Furries top the bill at Sesiwn

Apr 22 2005

By Hywel Trewyn, Daily Post

THE Super Furry Animals headline this year's Sesiwn Fawr music festival at Dolgellau.

Last year's capacity crowds drawn by Cerys Matthews, Bryn Fôn and an eclectic mixture of local and international stars helped bring the unique festival back into the black.

Three years ago the event made a £38,000 loss.

This year the locally-based festival organisers, working in partnership with South-Wales based company The Pop Factory, secured the services of the Furries to kick-off the weekend.

Formed in 1991, the Furries won critical acclaim world-wide for their unique style of music, their energetic live shows and wild, unpredictable performances.

Their appearance on Friday, July 15 - Sesiwn Fawr's opening night - precedes a tour of the US in the Autumn.

The festival also promises the very best in Welsh folk and rock music.

There are also special guest appearances by Dominican reggae artist Nasio Fontaine who headlines on Saturday night.

The show also features award-winning Scottish singer-songwriter Karine Polwart who recently won the Radio 2 Folk Album of The Year Award for her Faultlines CD and Mozaik - the band formed by former Planxty mainmen Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny.

Welsh favourite Elin Fflur also appears on Stage B on Saturday night.

Also appearing are Hugh Chiswell, Frizbee, who recently won the Radio Cymru Pop and Rock Awards, Sibrydion, formed by exmembers of Big Leaves, Estynedig, formerly part of the Anweledig, Estella and Vates line-ups and Yr Hwntws with their original line-up.

Tickets are on sale now and available from the Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau Information Line on 08712 301314.
