ELECTION monitors yesterday moved to allay postal vote fears after envelopes failed to seal.
Returning officers urged electors to check their postal vote and if they will not stick - fasten them with sticky tape..
A number of envelopes sent out in Gwynedd and Denbighshire refused to close properly, which has raised fears that the ballot paper could be tampered with or lost.
An estimated 60,000 people in North Wales will use a postal vote for the May 5 general election.
Denbighshire council chief executive and acting returning officer Ian Miller said: "We would ask every postal voter to check that the envelope provided for their ballot paper seals properly.
"If it doesn't, they can either use sticky tape to secure it, request a new mailer from our electoral services team on 01824 706114 or send all material back (including the original mailer) in their own envelope to the Freepost address shown on the original," Mr Miller added.
"So far, we have been notified by two members of the public that their own envelopes were not sticking properly and have received two which individuals have stuck down with tape.
"We are now working with our colleagues in Gwynedd to monitor the situation and are taking the matter up with the stationery supplier, who is used by the majority of Welsh authorities."
