CAMPAIGNER Lydia Bulmer has got on her bike in a bid to add a special Welsh perspective to the forthcoming summit of the world's most powerful nations. Politics graduate Lydia, 24, is currently on a three-month cycle tour of Wales and is stopping off at communities along the way to collect the opinions and concerns of the public. She is planning to present these views to Assembly First Minister Rhodri Morgan and hopes that they will then be taken up to the representatives of the G8 summit being held at Gleneagles, Scotland, in July. Part of her tour has brought Lydia to the Vale and she said that it was apparent many people were feeling disillusioned with politics. "There is a very strong view being expressed that the ordinary man and woman in the street is not really being listened to by political leaders," said Lydia, who lives in Aberystwyth. "I think that people do want the G8 representatives to know what they are thinking and to take action on it." She got the idea for the marathon cycling project in January but was initially a little hesitant as to whether to go ahead with it or not. However friends gave her a great deal of encouragement and she decided that it would be the right thing to do. "I am really enjoying it, but obviously it can be hard going. I'm not that physically fit, but I hope to be by the time I have finished," she said. "There have been a few problems out on the road so far, like having a broken wheel spoke." Lydia is keen to promote peace, justice and sustainable development. She said that there had been a range of issues raised with her so far along the tour covering everything from affordable housing to climate change.
