THE prime minister, his deputy and the chancellor were yesterday sent an SOS by campaigners fighting plans for a massive windfarm off the North Wales coast. The politicians have been invited to spend a weekend in Llandudno to assess the likely impact of 230 turbines. Npower Renewables have already been granted consent for 30 giant turbines on the Rhyl Flats site six miles off Abergele. A planning application is expected to be lodged later this year for another 200 under the Gwynt y Môr scheme. The group's press officer Ruby Williams said: "In the interests of fair play and common decency all three politicians should spend at least one day in North Wales so they can assess the full impact of the devastation these turbines will cause." |
