Language worker's racist rant

A WORKER at an Assembly-funded Welsh language group sent a four-letter anti-British tirade to a website.

An AM last night branded the rant "racist and abusive" and questioned whether Aled Cottle, a business officer for Menter Iaith in Flintshire, should keep his job.

Mr Cottle sent the offensive e-mail to Natwatch, which claims to expose "the failure, mendacity and xenophobia of nationalists in Scotland and Wales".

It was sent last Tuesday from "Aled Cottle" and put on the website. It said: "Helo you f***ing Brits, Read your History, you f***ing Anglo Saxons came from Holland/Germany.

"Welsh has always been the historic language of Wales - you f***ing ignorant Colonists. F*** the Brits!"

Labour AM for Alyn and Deeside Carl Sargeant wrote to Menter Iaith chairman Dewi Jones deploring the tirade.

Mr Sargeant said: "The language used by Mr Cottle in his rant is racist, abusive and profane. This man is paid for by the taxpayer, those very people he seems to bear so much hatred towards. He is supposed to encourage businesses to operate bilingually, an important job and crucial to the Labour Assembly's goal of encouraging a bilingual Wales.

"It is impossible to see how he can continue to do this after such a series of tirades."
