A MEMORIAL fund in the name of former Plaid Cymru president Gwynfor Evans was officially launched yesterday. The party's first MP, he died in April aged 92. One of the main objectives of the fund will be a Gwynfor Evans scholarship. A memorial stone was also planned at the site where his ashes were scattered in Carmarthenshire. The fund was launched at a dinner at Gwesty'r Meifod Hotel, Bontnewydd, Caernarfon Caernarfon last night. Plaid Cymru president Dafydd Iwan said: "As well as being an opportunity to pay tribute to Gwynfor, the dinner marked the official launch of the Gwynfor Memorial Fund. "One of its main aims will be to establish a University of Wales scholarship, but there are various other plans, including a memorial stone at the place where his ashes were scattered near Llangadog. Once details are agreed with Gwynfor's family, there will be a further announcement." |
