Terrier Ringo thinks he's a boxer

Aug 23 2005

By Carl Butler, Daily Post

Russ' security firm colleague Chris Frank ducks behind the kick pad as Russian black terrier Ringo Tsar enjoys a work-out

A FORMER world champion kick boxer is training his dog to deliver a knock-out blow... with his paws.

Any dog can bite, but Russ Williams' kicking canine Ringo packs a mean punch.

And his master, from Caerwys, near Holywell, said the 15-month-old Russian black terrier was improving by the day.

Russ, the first person in Wales to learn Thai and kickboxing, said last night: "I started thinking that he will grow into a large strong intelligent dog.

"So why teach him, as most dog handlers do, to bite?

"I decided to teach him to jump up on command and kick with his two front legs.

"I have been training him for weeks now and he will jump and kick on command to either punch bags or someone holding a kick pad.

"He hasn't got great power at the moment but is improving day by day."
