Both are expected to be discussed by the county's licensing committee in the next few months.
Several shopkeepers around Lancaster Square in Conwy yesterday said they would be lodging objections to the sex shop plan with the council.
Former Conwy mayor, Betty Patinson, 77, lives three doors away from the proposed shop.
Last night, she said: "I am utterly appalled. Conwy is part of the rich fabric of Europe and is an outstanding conservation area.
"People here are absolutely furious about this.
"This is not a big city, but a small community. It is within yards of the castle and listed buildings, and to have had people fight to preserve the character of this town to put up with this is an insult."
Jane Hughes, co-ordinator of the Conwy Feast festival on October 22 and 23, expects 30,000 people in the town during that weekend.
She said: "This is not what we want in Conwy, and it is not the image we want to promote.
"There are lots of school trips to Conwy, it is an educational centre. It would be a shame if this was approved.
"We want to continue working to keep Conwy special. This is upsetting."
University graduate Elly Jones Hughes, 26, of Gyffin, Conwy, said: "I have a young daughter, and this is not the kind of thing I want to be walking past with her on the way to the shops. "I find it disgraceful that a company is considering coming to a quiet town like Conwy."
A spokesman for Seedier Enterprises Xtra, who are based in Orpington, Kent, said: "We are not concerned about these people.
"Look at York, one of the most historical sites in the world, and that has similar shops there.
"These people ought to do their research about this sort of thing because it was passed by parliament years and years ago."
