Another music fan, Annie Walsh from Shrewsbury said: "Bryn and Andrea are two singers at the very top of their profession. It was an absolutely magical evening." Many enthused about Canadian-American soprano Erin Wall who battled against the blustery conditions to hit all the top notes. Pensioner Diane Roberts, from Felinheli, who described herself as being "hooked on Bryn" said she was moved to tears by the singing. "I had missed out on hearing Bryn at the National Eisteddfod a couple of weeks ago because I was ill, and tonight's ticket was a treat from my son. I just couldn't help myself. I can't believe I saw and heard this beautiful singing just two miles from my home. Dozens of Bryn's fan club, Y Terfeliaid, attended this year's festival. Organiser Marilyn Henry said: "It's an opportunity for us all to get together. This year we are raising funds for charity. Two limited edition prints have been raffled along with a Welsh flag signed by all who took part in Friday's concert." Andrea Bocelli had jetted into Liverpool Airport in readiness for the concert and had been given a short tour of Caernarfon by festival organisers. He popped into the Black Boy pub, within the walls of the historic town, for a coffee to the delight of landlord John Evans and regulars. Bryn himself will jet off later this week to New York for final rehearsals with the Metropolitan Opera where he will play the title role in Falstaff. He is likely to miss the final competition of his scholarship at Caernarfon's Galeri next month. The scholarship, worth £4,000 this year, was set up to help young performers pay for special training. The evening features eight of the main winners at the Urdd National Eisteddfod held at Cardiff's Millennium Centre in early June. The evening will be broadcast later on S4C. |
