All systems blow

Sep 16 2005

Exclusive By Garth Apthomas, Vale Advertiser

AFTER nearly six years of controversy in the making, the Tir Mostyn Foel Goch wind farm project is about to go on-line and begin to generate electricity.

Tom Murley of HgCapital said the hand-over from contractors to his company is on schedule and will take place imminently.

Back in October 1999, the Vale Advertiser first broke the story about plans to build turbines near to Nantglyn.

The news caused a massive furore and sparked a lengthy battle between protesters and those in favour of the project.

But now it is all systems go. The building work on the site is coming to an end and the wind farm is about to become active.

"These are very exciting times," said Mr Murley. "We are in the final stages of checking and testing. The hand-over to us from the contractors should be undertaken early in October.

"I am very pleased with the way things have been going. This is a very significant scheme and the construction period has been on target."
