Language protest

Nov 1 2005

Daily Post

A WELSH language activist became the 11th protester to daub paint on the Welsh Assembly headquarters in Cardiff yesterday.

Mair Stuart, a member of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg, was demanding a new language act to require private companies to provide services in Welsh.

Ms Stuart, from Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, will also appear in court later this month for refusing to pay her council tax. "I have taken part in the Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg campaign because of the failure of Rhodri Morgan and his government to even discuss effectively the need for a New Welsh language Act," she said.
