Hospital probe into meningitis tragedy

Frankie Jones

A HOSPITAL probe was under way yesterday following a nine-month-old baby boy's meningitis death.

North East Wales NHS Trust bosses confirmed an internal investigation was under way into little Frankie Jones' death..

The baby died from meningitis at Wrexham Maelor Hospital on Tuesday, November 15 after being seen by at least four doctors.

Devastated parents Rachel Jones and partner Jason will meet doctors today to question them.

They claim their baby was showing symptoms of the killer bug when he was rushed into hospital.

The two want to know how the doctors missed his illness and why police were sent round to their house on the day of his death.

A trust spokesman said: "The trust wishes to offer its sincere condolences to Rachel and Jason on the death of their son Frankie.

"It is the policy of the coroner's office to communicate the cause of death to the parents in the first instance and we are sorry we did not have the opportunity to advise Rachel and Jason of this.

"As is usual and proper in any case of unexpected death, the trust is bound by strict national policy guidance to ensure all appropriate agencies are involved.

"We acknowledge the impact this has had on the parents at what is a very sad and difficult time and are sorry for the distress this process has caused them. The trust has confirmed it has already commenced an internal review under the serious incident policy and the report will be shared with Rachel and Jason once completed."
