A NORTH Wales music maker is hoping to hit No1 with an album of tracks by top TV soap stars. Gordon Lorenz turned out the Soapstar Superstar CD, based on the hit TV show, in just two weeks. Saturday's final, hosted by Cilla Black, was won by 16-year-old Richard Fleeshman, who plays Coronation Street's Craig Harris. Llandudno-based producer Gordon, who set Charlotte Church on the road to stardom, was given the tough task by Granada and EMI. The stars are a long way from Gordon's next task - recording EMI's England World Cup tune with 50 footie fans. Last night he was keeping his fingers crossed the newlyreleased soap star CD will blast to the top of the album charts this Sunday. The CD's classic hits include cover versions of Blondie's Hanging On The Telephone sung by Wendi Richards, Al Green's Let's Stay Together by Nicolas Bailey and the Kinks' You Really Got Me by Andy Whyment. Gordon believes Richard's talent will take the Corrie actor - rumoured to be talking record deals - to the top. The teenager recorded covers of Trippin' and I Can't Read You. Fern Britton and Ben Shep-hard presented the series, which started earlier this month, with 10 popular soap stars showcasing their musical talents. |
