DAREDEVIL rider Jason Rennie yesterday smashed the world record for the longest ever bicycle leap. The 35-year-old cleared more than 133ft on his Kona mountain bike - breaking the old record by almost 18ft. He took off the ramp at 83mph, after being towed by a motorbike ridden by friend Jim McBain, landing safely the other side. Jason made eight attempts at Coed Llandegla mountain bike centre before setting the new world record in front of 60 spectators. After being pulled up to speed Jason cut himself free and zoomed up the ramp amidst the Llandegla woods. He initially hoped to clear 120ft. During one of yesterday's jumps he beat the world record by just 1ft - 117ft.. But just to make sure there were no arguments the daredevil saddled up again and hurtled another 17ft beyond the record. Speaking after the breathtaking jump, Jason, who lives in Llangollen, was delighted. |
