Wind turbine application approved

Mar 17 2006

The Chronicle, Llandudno

A CONSTRUCTION company boss is going green - in his own backyard.

David McLean (pictured), president of David McLean Holdings, has been given the go-ahead to erect two 15m wind turbines at his home in Sychdyn.

They will be capable of providing almost 100% of the electricity to his home.

Flintshire planning committee approved the application.

Chief planning services officer Huw Evans said high boundary hedges to the property would screen the turbines from the highway, footpaths and bridleways.

He added: 'The turbines are 15m high and therefore of small scale and sit comfortably in the immediate landscape.

'All the guidance and policies in the local plans aim to encourage and support the use of renewable energy.

'It is considered the turbines will not be dominant nor visible outside a limited zone of visual influence.

'They are not considered to be detrimental to the character and appearance of the open countryside in which they are located.'
