My dad was 80 miles off when couple were killed

Mar 31 2006

By Bill Bond, Daily Post

THE daughter of one of two Venezuelans accused of brutally murdering a North Wales couple while on a house-hunting holiday in Spain yesterday gave her father an alibi.

Speaking in little more than a whisper, the 17-year-old told a panel of three judges sitting at Alicante's Palace of Justice that her father, Jorge Real Sierra was more than 80 miles away from the house where Linda O'Malley, 55, and her 43-year-old husband Anthony, from Llangollen, were held bound and gagged for five days before they died.

Sierra, 56, and his 40-year-old brother-in-law Juan Antonio Velazquez deny murdering the couple at a villa in the small town of Alcoy, just inland from Benidorm on September 13, 2002.

Mr O'Malley was said to have been asphyxiated with a plastic bag and his wife to have died from shock.

The bodies of the couple were found buried beneath the floor of the cellar of the house six months later after the two Venezuelans were arrested.

The prosecution allege the couple were kidnapped when they went to the property on or about September 8 as part of their search for a dream home in the Spanish sun. They had seen it advertised for sale in the Costa Blanca News, a local English language newspaper.
