Who wants to turn stately home into a top-class hotel

Apr 13 2006

Kinmel Hall

A STATELY home once dubbed the "Welsh Versailles" could be converted into a luxury hotel.

Plans to transform the 19th century Kinmel Hall, near Abergele, have been submitted to Conwy Council.

The move comes just weeks after nearby Gwrych Castle was put on the market for £1.5m.

Last month, agents Derbyshire Investments became the sole owners of the hall. It is now being advertised for development on the group's web-site www.kinmelhall.co.uk .

The site bills Kinmel Hall "a unique development opportunity, offering residential and mixed use along with stunning views over the Welsh countryside".

"It could be used as a trophy spa/ leisure resort hotel, conference/ training centre, quality residential apartments, office headquarters or combination of such uses."

Developers interested in the 90,000sq ft property, which boasts a mile-long drive, could tap into Welsh Development Agency and Cadw grants. There is no price tag on the Grade I-listed building.
