A PWLLHELI councillor fears that the appointment of a parking warden will expose the serious lack of legal parking spaces in the town. Speaking at a meeting of Pwllheli Town Council, Cllr Michael Sol Owen said he sympathised with concerns that some people park their cars all day in restricted areas of the town's streets, particularly High Street. "Gwynedd Council will be employing a traffic warden in the town as from next April, a situation that will lead to parking tickets being issued in an attempt to rid the streets of cars that are being parked illegally," said Cllr Owen. "With this in mind I am concerned that we will soon find that we do not have sufficient parking grounds, an issue that I have already taken up with county officials," he added. Expressing his concern that people parking cars in restricted areas, Cllr Evan John Hughes said: "Even before the warden is appointed we need better signage to warn people of the time restrictions, for many people are not aware that they are currently committing a parking offence. "It is a cause for concern that High Street is full of cars at 9am, with the same cars parked there all day. The message needs to go out that High Street is not a parking ground." Cllr Ian Roberts added: "The High Street is a complete mess with no-one taking any notice of parking restrictions. The situation is also the same in Ala Road. We need to press on Gwynedd Council to provide more 'No Parking' signs as a matter of urgency. I am concerned that parking in Ala Road could lead to delays when an ambulance is called to an emergency." Members agreed to press the county council for more parking restriction signs . |
