Internet scam targets bankers

Sep 11 2006

Daily Post

BUSINESSMEN and bank workers are being targeted in an internet scam, trading standards officials and police warned last night.

Dozens of businesses in North Wales received messages from Norway Consulting Group, offering people with a knowledge of the banking profession jobs as "part-time financial managers".

But anyone signing up could become the potential victim of so-called West African 419 fraud.

The e-mail explains money will be transferred into a personal account and will then need to be transferred immediately via bank transfer to another account.

A Gwynedd Council spokesman said: "The council's trading standards unit advises members of the public to ignore these types of offers. More often than not, those responsible for such e-mails are trying to entice members of the public to part with their bank details in return for substantial cash awards.

"The council's trading standards unit would advise members of the public not to disclose their bank details."

Norway Consulting Group is supposedly situated in Oslo.

The spokesman added: "These e-mails are attempted fraud. We advise you not to reply."
