Shooters on target to raise £1,125

Sep 21 2006

By Rachel Barrows, Wrexham Mail

A SHOOTING competition in memory of local man James Want-ling has raised a fantastic £1,125 for Nightingale House Hospice.

The clay pigeon shoot, held at Llandegla Shooting Ground saw professionals, amateurs, beginners and youngsters, compete in three competitions.

Professionals competed for the James Wantling Memorial Trophy, inaugurated last year by his father Gary and friends and fellow marksmen.

Winner was Paul Wilson of Llangollen, with Tony Jones taking second prize in the 50-bird Down the Line (DTL) competition and Lewis Wantling winning the 10 Bird DTL organised for newcomers. Community fundraiser Margaret

Hollings said: 'It was absolutely brilliant to take part and raise money at such a special event.

'With plenty of people and plenty of cracked clay discs in the fields at the end of the day, the event was a huge success and we must thank Jason Norman, Darrel Evans, Paul Tulk and Gary Wantling for their fantastic efforts in organising and running the event.

'I would also like to thank MBNA for kindly match-funding the proceeds made and also Meadow Vale Foods for their kind donation of prize money.

'It was a great day and I would urge everybody to join in next year's event. Even if you've never tried the sport.'
