Cinema battlers face fund deadline

Sep 22 2006

Daily Post

TEN councillors are to lead the fight to prove their local cinema can work.

Residents and councillors in Prestatyn have two months to prove the Scala project is viable - or risk seeing funding lost.

The recommendation to withdraw funding for the Scala was made in Denbighshire's Capital Plan earlier this week.

One community leader said he was not ready to see the battle for the high street cinema lost.

Cllr Mike German, chairman of the Scala Advisory Group, said: "We have come a long way with the Scala and we are not about to be defeated now.

"The project means a lot to the town, and as well as being a benefit to residents it will also draw people, including tourists.

"We realise that there are many calls on Denbighshire's Capital Plan, but we are also mindful of the investment which has already been made in the Scala project and we do not want to see this go to waste."

The decision on whether to proceed with the Scala plan will be made in a full Denbighshire meeting in November.
