Cannabis found in woodland

Apr 27 2007

by Matt Sims, Vale Advertiser

LARGE quantities of cannabis were found hidden in different parts of woodland, a court heard last week.

Prestatyn magistrates were told police sniffer dogs tracked down the stashes of drugs in Clocaenog Forest after Geraint Wyn Jones admitted hiding them there.

Last Monday (April 16), Jones, 50, appeared before Denbigh magistrates and pleaded guilty to possessing four kilos of cannabis with intent to supply.

He was bailed to appear at Mold crown court on May 17 and a pre-sentence report was ordered.

However, the following day (Tuesday, April 17) he was arrested after eight ounces of the drug was found in his car.

Prosecutor Peter Humphrey Jones told the court that Jones, of Bethania Chapel, Pentredwr, near Llangollen, told officers that he had hidden parcels of the drug in different parts of the forest.

Sniffer dogs tracked down various stashes and yet more were found later that day. The total weight of the drug recovered was over 20 kilos.

Andy Hutchinson, defending, said Jones would be pleading guilty to the two new offences of possessing cannabis with intent to supply but agreed with the prosecution that clarification was needed first on the amount of herbal cannabis and resin involved.

Centre plans

NORTH Wales Police are applying to Denbighshire County Council for a planning condition to be lifted to allow the firearms training centre at Craig-y-Ddywarth, in Rhewl, to be used on Sundays.

The complex, one of the best of its kind in Britain, is used by several other forces.
