Let's go again

Sep 7 2006

By Paul Scott, Caernarfon Herald

REFRESHED after a weekend away from action Porthmadog face a very difficult week as they are gearing up for back to back meetings with league leaders Rhyl.

The Traeth side travel to Belle Vue twice in the space of four days to meet the Lilywhites in the Principality Welsh Premier League on Saturday and then the Loosemores Challenge Cup next Tuesday.

These dual meetings would be difficult at any time but Porthmadog's task is made all the more tough given the fact that Rhyl are in brilliant form.

John Hulse's outfit have won all three of their Welsh Premier assignments and beat Bangor City 4-0 last week in league cup action.

Their only blip was a 2-1 defeat at Caernarfon and they were unlucky not to get something from that game after proving a constant attacking threat.

Port manager Viv Williams is under no illusions about the task facing his team over the next week but he feels his charges can prove more than a match for the early season pace makers.

He said: "They have had some really good results and will cause us different sorts of problems. "They're playing some good football and it's going to be hard for us. We have got to be at our best but we have the physical attributes to match them so we should go into the games confident. "We will have to be on our game, though."

Porthmadog are almost at full strength going into the first Rhyl meeting on Saturday's with only suspended Gareth Caughter unavailable.

Gareth Parry and Paul Friel are back in

contention after injuries.

Williams hopes his players will have benefited from having a weekend off and demonstrate their sharpness against the Lilies.

He said: "Our last game was a good result against Caernarfon so with players coming back we have some difficult decisions to make. "I think the break came at the right time for us. It's hard for the players to be playing so much football early in the season. "You have to remember they're part time players at the end of the day. I get the feeling the rest will have done us good."

Saturday's game kicks off at 2.30pm with next Tuesday's encounter starting at 7.30pm.
