CAERNARFON manager Steve O'Shaughnessy reckons that his new team might have to toughen up in order to climb the Welsh Premier table. A 2-2 draw with Porthmadog at Y Traeth last Sunday was the Canaries’ first point under O’Shaughnessy’s stewardship, but they still remain next-to-bottom with just three points from their opening seven games. With high-flying Llanelli arriving at The Oval tomorrow, the former Oswestry and Druids boss knows things are unlikely to get much easier. He said: “We’ve got a good little football team here but sometimes they’ve been a bit too nice. “This is a tough league but we’ve been naive and need to be a bit more focused.” Previous manager Wayne Phillips resigned a couple of days after the 1-0 home reverse to Cwmbran Town on September 9, after a frustrating couple of years in charge with the club finishing 15th and 13th in his two full seasons. O’ Shaughnessy said: “The team went through something of a bad time over the past couple of seasons but hopefully it was just a spell and we can now change things. |
