No excuses from crushed Bluebirds

Oct 9 2006

by Daily Post

CAERSWS boss Mickey Evans offered no excuses after seeing his side slump to their heaviest Welsh Premier loss on home soil in 11 years.

The reverse was the worst suffered by the Bluebirds at the Recreation Ground since the 7-0 hammering at the hands of Llansantffraid back in September 1995.

“We have to hold our hands up and say we were poor and were beaten by a better side on the night,” Evans said.

“They caught us time and time again. I couldn’t fault the lads’ effort, but we were a yard short all the time.”

The damage was done in the first period with the visitors scoring five times, the opening two goals coming in the space of a minute through Kris Thomas (nine minutes) and Nathan Cotterall (10 minutes).

Ross Stephens and Chris Venables went close to reducing the arrears with a header, but Carmarthen tightened their grip with three more goals before the break as the lively visitors were afforded too much space.

Kaid Mohamed broke clear to net the third on 32 minutes, five minutes later Danny Thomas increased the lead with a header before Kris Thomas made it five on the stroke of half time.

The Bluebirds stemmed the flow after the break and created several good openings with Venables, Stephens and Graham Evans having their moments.

But Carmarthen bagged a sixth on 65 minutes through Danny Thomas before the hosts gained some consolation when Stephens lobbed a reply.

And the visitors had the last word when Kris Thomas, despite offside claims, completed his hat-trick in the final minute.
