Rangers win showdown with Colts

HAWARDEN Rangers got back to winning ways on Saturday as they powered to a 3-0 success at neighbours Castell Alun Colts.

Ryan Crawford put the visitors ahead, before a wonder-strike from Nicky Jones and a Robbie Gibson effort sealed the points.

The win lifts Hawarden up to fifth in the Welsh National League Premier Division.

Tomorrow, Hawarden host fourth-placed Penycae. Castell Alun make their way to second-placed Cefn.

Mold Alexandra, one spot below Cefn, return to action with a trip to rock-bottom Borras Park (all 2pm).

In Division One on Saturday, Airbus UK fought back to beat visitors Glyn Ceiriog 4-3 thanks to Joe Jennings, Ady Graves, Dean Hughes and Lee Jones.

Mold Alexandra are fourth in Division Two after their 5-0 romp at Brickfield. Richard Thackery, Chris Bywater, Gareth Vaughan, Gary Birkett and Danny Seamarks on target.

Hawarden Rangers' Division Three promotion hopes were hit as they went down 4-3 at home to Coedpoeth.

Andy Butler (2) and Nick Byrne scored for Hawarden.

Division One outfits Penyffordd and New Brighton suffered contrasting fortunes in the Horace Wynne Cup first round.

Penyffordd held their nerve to win on penalties after Llay held them 2-2. Mathew Holmes and Kieran Timbers got the home side's goals, Adam Pugh with the decisive spot-kick. New Brighton lost 4-3 at Ruthin.

Halkyn United moved off the bottom of the Welsh Alliance on Saturday after winning their base-ment battle with Caerwys, who slip to the foot.

After Chris Williams put through his own net, Halkyn added further strikes through Bryn Preece and Ian Swindell to run out 3-1 victors. Gareth Thomas for hosts Caerwys.

Sealand Rovers against Holywell Town was postponed.

Holywell returned to action on Tuesday with a thumping 4-0 home win over Llandudno Junction that moved them up to eighth. Danny Wynne (2), Les Clarkson and Dave Gleaves netted.

On the same night, Rhydymwyn's trip to Conwy was called off.

Rhydymwyn crashed out of the Cookson Cup on Saturday as they lost their second-round home tie to favourites Denbigh 3-1. Sean Edwards with the consolation.

Tomorrow, in league combat, Rhydymwyn head to Nefyn, Caerwys are away to Llanrug, Sealand make the trip to Llanrwst and Halkyn host Llanberis.

Flint Town United Reserves missed the chance to go second in the Clwyd League Premier Division after suffering a shock 2-1 home loss to struggling Mochdre on Saturday.

Aston Park Rangers triumphed 4-2 over Llansannan, with Anthony Weaver (2), Chris Evans and Ritchie Colclough on target for the hosts. Bottom-side Halkyn United Reserves were floored 4-0 by visiting Rhyl Youth.

Brynford United's good run in Division One came to an end at high-flying Denbigh Reserves. Dean Rigby scored Brynford's solitary strike in the 4-1 turnover. Caerwys Reserves, one place below Brynford at the foot, lost 2-0 at pacesetters Abergele.

Northop Hall played themselves into the Division Two champion-ship race with a 3-1 home victory over Aston Park Rangers.

Leon Bowen, Tom Cox and James Antrobus for Hall, Danny Williams for Aston.

In the NWCFA Junior Cup fourth round, Division Two's Point of Ayr fell 4-1 at Premier Division leaders Llandyrnog Reserves. Jamie Davis got Point's goal.
