WELSH Premier side Rhyl are rewarding their loyal fans by their decision to stage next week's Uefa Cup match against Viking Stavanger at Belle Vue. And the club is hoping to win Uefa approval for the installation of an additional 500 permanent seats to bring the ground's capacity up to 1,600 before the first leg of the second qualifying round tie. Wrexham's Racecourse Ground - used by Welsh Premier champions TNS for their Champions League clash with Liverpool last month - has in excess of 10,000 seats but Rhyl's directors have resisted the temptation to seek a switch of venue. Spokesman Doug Mortimer said: "We are committed to playing the game at Belle Vue because it is a game for the whole town. "Obviously it will be an all-ticket match, with priority being given to season ticket-holders and fans' association members. It may be a decision that costs us money but if we need to ask people to pay a little more than usual for the game, we are sure they won't mind." Having previously informed Uefa that Belle Vue currently has seating for 1,100 fans, Rhyl will need the ruling body's approval to increase the capacity. If that is forthcoming they face a race against time to complete the installation of 500 new seats which comply to safety regulations. "If Uefa agree we'll have to look at the logistics of putting in the extra seats over the course of the next 10 days," added Mortimer. "Temporary seating is not allowed under Uefa's licensing criteria and it's going to take a gigantic effort from everyone involved." |
