Rhyl allow Mutton to return to Nomads

Jan 27 2006

By Mike Mcevoy And John Bridgwater, Daily Post

RHYL striker Tommy Mutton has rejoined Connah's Quay Nomads.

The popular marksman, who lives at nearby Buckley, signed up for his old club yesterday for an undisclosed fee.

He will make his return debut in Nomads' tough test at Llanelli tomorrow.

Rhyl manager John Hulse said: "Because of his work situation Tommy was finding it difficult to get to training and we also felt that his inclusion was keeping out Chris Sharp, who has done exceptionally well here.

"Tommy himself naturally wants regular first-team football and this move has been done amicably on all sides."

Meanwhile Hulse will be chasing three points against tonight's visitors Newi Cefn Druids following Sunday's impressive 2-1 victory at Aberystwyth.

"It was good battling performance against a strong side," he warned.. "We will need to show the same consistency if we are to beat Druids.

"We only drew 1-1 at their place earlier in the season and Dixie McNeil will have them well organised again, so it's not going to be at all easy.

"Our fans were great last week as always and I hope they'll get behind us again and lift the team because they can make such a difference."

Hulse is awaiting a late fitness test on midfielder Gaz Wilson, who missed both the Swansea and Aber games through injury.

Long-term injured club skipper Timmy Edwards faces two or three more outings with the reserves before coming into first-team reckoning.

Druids boss Dixie McNeil is keeping his feet firmly on the ground despite last weekend's 7-0 drubbing of Grange Quins.

"Rhyl will be a totally different proposition tonight," he warned.

"They are probably the next best side in the league after TNS, but we showed that we can match them when we drew at home earlier in the season."

The return of Darren Williams is a boost, but fellow striker Alan Evans is injured.
