ROY EVANS believes Wales have finally got enough competition in their squad to cope without Ryan Giggs. Manchester United midfielder Giggs, newly crowned as Wales’ Footballer of the Year, misses his first competitive matches in John Toshack’s near two-year reign when Slovakia and Cyprus visit Cardiff for European Championship qualifiers in the coming week. Assistant boss Evans admits if Wales had lost Giggs earlier in Toshack’s reign, they would have been panic-stricken. But the former Liverpool manager now sees a clutch of new talent emerging and, even though Giggs is one of five senior men out through injury, there are still choices to be made. Evans said: “Ryan is always a massive loss. He has a hamstring problem and he won’t start training for his club until next week. “We will miss him but we are not tearing our hair out. We have got lads with great quality who have never let us down. “We still have selection problems. When you lose five, usually the team starts to pick itself. |
