Boss Shaw is also scouring the market for new blood. FLINTSHIRE Freeze coach Gary Shaw has confirmed he has no interest in re-signing Billy Price and Brian Worrall. When the Deesiders released their retained list on their official website, the names of former Manchester Phoenix players Price and Worrall were conspicuous by their absence. The forwards both returned to the Freeze last season yet failed to make an impact, and towards the end of the campaign rarely featured. Shaw said: 'We are not going to sign Billy or Brian because they became a disruptive influence on team spirit. 'Players need to see other players giving their all. That's what we want at the club and that's why we have kept the players who did so well for us last season.' Included on the retained list are captain Pete Founds - who will be able to play more games next season as he has less commitments outside of hockey - and key defender Steve Fellows - who will play on until he goes in for knee surgery. Youngsters Mike Jones, James Parsons and Mike Stockley will make the step up from the Freeze's Under 19s team. Netminder Rick Ashton will be unavailable for spells in 2006-07, so Shaw is looking to bring in another keeper to play alongside Mark Law, and is hoping former Freeze favourite Dave Clancy will fill that role. The coach is also after a D-man so he can move Steve Elliott back up front. He has been offered a Slovenian import, and will run the rule over him before coming to a decision. Shaw has also previously stated his desire to bring in more firepower, so Flintshire supporters can expect plenty of activity before the season starts on September 10. * Flintshire Furies have received a double-boost. Manager Nick Venables has ended his year-long search for a new netminder by signing former Blackburn Thunder stopper Michelle Keily. That means Leigh Hetherington - who has told Venables she will be able to play for the club again next season after fears she would have to quit - can return to defence, having been forced between the pipes last time out. However, having done so well, Hetherington says she will happily go in goal in the future. |
