Double joy for Eryri ladies in UK mountain champs

Sep 19 2006

Daily Post, Llandudno

ERYRI Harriers ended the British Mountain Running championship on a high, claiming two medals.

The warm weather made conditions tough in the 17.5-mile Peris Horseshoe race, which started and finished in Llanberis and involved 8,500 feet of ascent.

Bingley's Rob Jebb took the men's title with another impressive performance, with fellow English international Lloyd Taggart (Dark Peak) runner-up on the day.

Taggart's partner Jackie Lee (Eryri) was the first woman at the halfway mark but in the closing stages was overtaken by Christine Howard (Matlock).

Lee took silver in the women's championship as she led Eryri's ladies to a well-earned third place in the team competition behind Bingley and Carnethy.

Veteran Steve Gilliland (Bro Dysynni) was denied a fourth straight win in the 12.5k Ras Fawr Llanddoged by Eryri's Brendan Rothery.
