Heat slows up runners

Sep 20 2006

Holyhead Mail, Llandudno

HEATWAVE conditions ensured that no records were broken in the last round of the British Championships held at Llanberis last Saturday.

The race was important for the Eryri Ladies and despite a win for Matlock's Christine Howard in 3.58.22, a fine 2nd place by Jackie Lee in 4.01.19, 5th Sarah Kleeman in 4.27.29 and 9th by Andrea Roberts (above left, with Jenny Williamson and Jackie Lee) 4.54.52 gave them first team on the day ahead of Dark Peak and Bingley and confirming the 3rd place overall in the British Championship with 36 points behind Carnethy 38 and Bingley 44.

There was added joy as Jackie took 2nd overall in the British Ladies while Andrea in her first year took 15th and the ladies title in the Eryri Club Champs.

Other Eryri placings were pillar near 16th, Tina McQueen 18th, Kath Broach 19th, Ali Thomas 22nd (1st local), Ellie Salisbury 27th (giving her the Eryri Vet Championship).

The Cread Awards for first locals went to Ali Thomas and James McHaffie and were presented by Cread MD Stephen Edwards.

Jenny Williams was also confirmed as a silver medallist in the British under-23 championships.
