ALEXANDER O'Sullivan took another step closer to his dream of becoming a Formula One driver when he won the 2006 Gold Cup at the Three Sisters Raceway near Wigan. Driving his Intrepid 06 Rotax kart, 13-year-old Alexander, from Northop Hall, dominated the event, finishing third in heat one and winning the second heat to secure a front-row grid position in the final. Rain at the start of the 12-lap race meant a quick change to wet weather tyres and by lap eight Alexander was already in the lead, eventually taking the chequered flag well ahead of the racer in second. Alexander said: 'The annual Gold Cup is the North West's biggest karting event and I am delighted to have taken the win for 2006. 'My next focus is on the British Super One round at PF International in Grantham, and a win could take me into the top three in the UK.' * Guy Woodcock continues to fly the flag for Flintshire. The Llanferres racer partnered homester Bart Van Reimsdijk in the BHV Expo Rally in Holland, where the Anglo-Dutch duo enjoyed a weekend to remember. They secured 10th place overall, as well as winning their class and being hailed as the best Formula Two car. The displays also gave Woodcock - who is a chartered surveyor working in Deeside - a near-unassailable advantage in the West Euro Cup, which is the championship he is looking to retain for the third year running. If he does that, he will write his name into the history books as no other competitor has achieved such a feat before. Woodcock - who is back in action next week in the Rally Isle of Man - would like to thank sponsors CES UK, Kumho Tyres, Proflex and Mintex. |
