DEGANWY bowler Betty Phillips completed a tremendous British title double by helping Wales Ladies win the County Championship crown for the first time in their history. They beat Staffordshire by 35 points (433-399) in the final at Blackpool with Betty Phillips, who earlier in the summer won the British Ladies Individual Merit title for the first time, one of four single figure winners for the Wales team. She won her game 21-8, as did Rhos Park's Jackie Ollerton. Other Wales winners included Old Colwyn's Hilary Roberts, Min-y-Don's Sioned Taylor and Rhos Park's Janet Jones. In a closely fought final, Wales trailed by three points after 12 games and it remained neck and neck until the penultimate game when Sarah Hey (Penyffordd) won 21-3 to clinch victory.
