BOXING: WELSH international amateur boxer Aaron Thomas from Mochdre bids to retain his Welsh ABA welterweight title in Newport tomorrow night (Friday). He fights South Walian Leon Trott in the final after Trott won his semi-final last Monday. Aaron, 24, beat Trott on points in the preliminaries last year on his way to winning the title for the first time, but although the Mochdre boxer looks like starting as favourite tomorrow night, his coach Eddie Lloyd at the Clwyd Amateur Boxing Club warned this week: "We are expecting a tough fight." Aaron reached this year's Welsh final by beating highly-rated Robbie James from Merthyr in the semi-finals for his 23rd win in 34 bouts. He won the title by beating Cardiff's William Lukins in last yea's final and in December gained his second international victory for Wales in helping them to a 5-4 win over Norway. |
