THE annual Flora London Marathon threw up its usual mixture of pain and pleasure, satisfaction and disappointment for members of Prestatyn Running Club.
There was a smaller contingent than usual from the club, veteran Gay Waring first member home in around 3-30.
In the last month Gay has represented North Wales Police in a squash tournament in Edinburgh, won her age group in the national police cross-country championships in Newcastle, run for Prestatyn in the Great
BUPA Ireland 10k in Dublin and now the London Marathon - a remarkable performance.
Steve Wellington more than justified his award for the club's Most Improved Male Runner by taking a huge slice off his pb, finishing in 4-32. That was exactly the same time as clubmate Gill Yates, who was two minutes slower than last time.
Aaron Aspinall and John Hughes-Roberts, both hoping to finish inside 3-30, had more than their share of misfortunes.
Aaron suffered a knee injury and walked the last six miles to finish in 3-38, while John's troubles started even sooner and he, too, was reduced to a walk, crossing the line in a disappointing 4-30.
Last week Phil Jones and Steve Hatfield took part in the first of the Tuesday night series of fell-races at Foel Lus, Penmaenmawr. Phil, on his comeback from injury, clocked 33.47 - about 90 seconds down on last year - and Steve was about 30 seconds faster.
This Friday sees the final race in the Border Road Running League at Wrexham. The men and women have had a very satisfactory season with several in line for individual awards. Club captains Paul Brandrick and Gay Waring have appealed for a good turnout.
Forms are now available for the Suncentre 5k to be held on May 27, which club members and non-members are urged to enter.
