Children's rights addressed at Urdd

May 29 2008

By Steve Stratford

THE new Children’s Commissioner for Wales and the Chief Executive of the Urdd signed a memorandum of agreement to raise awareness of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

The UNCRC is a list of 42 rights that all children and young people all over the world are entitled to. Keith Towler, the recently appointed Children’s Commissioner, and Efa Gruffydd Jones, Chief Executive of the Urdd, signed the agreement on Y Maes and the Urdd Eisteddfod.

Efa Gruffydd Jones explains: "We’re very pleased to be teaming up with the Children’s Commissioner and his office to raise awareness of such an important convention for children and young people. The Urdd is an exciting, dynamic movement and I’m proud that we already assist children and young people to exercise some of their rights."
