Let’s have facts not fiction over ‘shambolic’ meeting

Aug 27 2008

by Our Correspondent, Rhyl Visitor

I WOULD like to respond and put the facts right to county councillor Glyn Jones’ comments to my letter in the Visitor dated July 23, “will they let us sink” and to an untruthful statement he has made against me in the Visitor and the Journal dated August 6.

I said in my article that the meeting on July 11 at Deva Church, Prestatyn, was a shambles, it was because no-one took the chair to take control of the meeting and, as one person was asking a question, another was being asked by someone else and no order was called for. I myself had my hand raised for about 15 minutes with no response. I did not attend the meeting as the vice-chairman of the Prestatyn South West and Central Prestatyn Residents’ Association but as a member of the general public. I have been accused in the press by county councillor Glyn Jones. He stated that the only thing that marred the meeting was a very nasty and personal attack that I made against one of the officers present.

Also in his article he has made a statement about me that is totally untrue. He should have got his facts right before going to print.

He stated “unlike Mr Paul Roberts I am not a joint owner of a successful business”. I will now put county councillor Glyn Jones and cohorts right.

My late father, who died 35 years ago, was Mr Len Roberts who started Roberts Taxis in 1947 and, upon his death in 1973, my brother Peter Roberts was sole beneficiary to my father’s estate.

I did not receive anything from his estate, I am not a partner nor have I ever been one in the business.

The only income I receive from Roberts Taxis are my wages as an employee. I now ask councillor Glyn Jones for an apology in the press for his unfounded allegations that he made about me.

As councillor Jones wishes to be helpful perhaps he and some of his cohorts can persuade DCC to listen to the public and not ignore us.

I believe in fact not fiction and not hide the truth hoping it will go away, it will not.
