JOHN Wyn-Jones keeps up his regular "anti-Labour" letters which fail to make an impression anymore, because they are so blatantly biased. So let me address the balance, by being biased towards Labour. Firstly, the blame for the credit crunch is due to the knock-on effect of the American recession/downturn, which always hurts us. It’s not Labour’s, or Gordon Brown’s fault. Gordon was the best chancellor we’ve ever had. He paid more off the national debt than any previous PM. He is just unlucky to take over as PM, when we are being hit by America’s woes. Dearer petrol is due to the huge increases in the price of oil, which is beyond our control. The huge price rises in utility bills, gas, electric, is due to the Thatcher Tory government selling them off to privatisation, like the rail network, who are also “cleaning up”. Labour is pouring money into the NHS,which benefits us all. Unlike the Tories, who closed down wards and beds, to save money, and created the huge waiting lists we are still trying to recover from, in the hope that the long waiting lists would force us to turn to private medicine. Labour has also poured money into schools, and you can see the reward in the exam results. Then you have the very welcome winter fuel payments relief for pensioners. Will the Tories do the same? I think not. This is a government that does care for the ordinary people, unlike the Tories who only care for their rich friends, and their God, privatisation, which their rich friends do very well out of. And who could forget the dreaded Thatcher’s Poll Tax. But thankfully it was her undoing. Please don’t ever forget those dreadful 18 years of Tory rule, no matter what setbacks Labour suffer. Fergus Madden Prestatyn Cards are a creditto cancer sufferers I WOULD like to say an enormous thank you to everyone who has so generously spent time designing and making unique cards in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care this year. Each year Marie Curie Cancer Care runs the Create a Card for Cancer Care campaign in partnership with “do crafts”, the website and magazine for crafters. We call upon our supporters to create one-off cards which are then sold in Marie Curie Cancer Care Shops across the UK for £1 each. This year alone, we received a record-breaking 111,400 cards, and I would like to call on your readers to go along to their local Marie Curie Cancer Care Shop and buy one of these bespoke cards. All the money raised will help Marie Curie Nurses like me care for terminally ill people in their own homes, allowing them to spend their final days with the people they love the most. Melissa Stocker Nursing Ambassador of the Year for Wales, Marie Curie Cancer Care Trees are a key part of our town’s heritage AS the demolition work has started on the old Somerfield Prestatyn site. It has been bought to my attention that the Nant Hall Road “tree avenue” (that’s the original 100-year-old part of Prestatyn) is once again under threat from the bulldozer. As these trees have preservation orders on them the thought of simply destroying them, shouldn't even be a thought. Could I ask openly my local councillor (town, county and planning) James Davies once again, as he has previously confirmed these trees WILL NOT be destroyed. Also, why the rumours of their 'demise' are still being suggested and with his personal guarantee that he is against their destruction and will not be suggesting so.
